About the artist - Jesse Dickson
It all began Once upon a time…
…in the woods, in a den with a wolf, a fire and a wild, untamed imagination.
Creativity is air to me. It’s how I breathe.
Without the ability to create, I am simply a ghost. A silent, haunted wisp of breath …voiceless and emotionless.
My imagination is how I process the world around me, how I communicate to others and how I see life.
We are all connected. We are all just energy, from the animals to the trees, the lichen to the microscopic insects intensely making their way through the tiny space they believe is the universe.
If telling a story takes energy, then surely, the moment that story is spoken, the energy released, its characters exist and are as real as you and me?
When I’m not working with silver at A Wolf and I, I love to draw and doodle with pen and ink, pastel and sometimes acrylic.
My work leans into the darker side of nature, storytelling and ancient legends. I am fascinated by what some would consider macabre. Prone to vivid nightmares my whole life, I have learnt to embrace the darkness, see the life cycles as a mere transition of energy from living being, back to the earth… and back again.
When I am drawing for Millie and the Wolf I am often asked ‘who is Roger?’. Roger the skeleton appeared on my page in 2020 and his toothy grin stole my heart instantly. He is my inner voice. He can say and feel the things that I can’t. He makes me laugh and hugs me tight all at once. I hope he does the same for you.
I was born in the south of England in 1973 and I lived a wild and free childhood amongst the ancient trees of the New Forest and the mermaid strewn beaches of the Dorset Coast. I studied Art and Design at Bournemouth & Poole college of art and gained a degree in History of Art at Winchester Art School. I then went on to pursue my passion for metalwork studying precious Jewellery and Silversmithing at The Sir John Cass at London Guildhall University. On graduation I began work as an independent jewellery designer maker. After a dramatic collision of universes I met my husband Al and we have been working together as professional jewellers as A Wolf and I ever since.
After travelling the world I now live back in Dorset with my husband Al and our three cats Millie, Lilith and Betty.
